"Not just an Accountant" book by Mr. Vinod Rai
Former Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai has targeted former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh over a slew of issues in his upcoming book 'Not just an Accountant'. Speaking about the book, Rai accused Dr Singh of "running from his responsibilities' during his tenure as the PM.
After PM's former media advisor Sanjaya Baru and ex coal secretary PC Parakh made some revelations about the UPA regime under Dr Singh's leadership, Rai, in his yet to be published book has given details of Congress's response to the multiple scam unearthed during his charge as CAG.
Rai said, "The book will have details of how the ex-PM succumbed to what he himself once described as 'compulsions of coalition politics'. Everything cannot be sacrificed only to remain in power. Governance cannot be sacrificed at the altar of compulsion of coalition politics"
Rai has also said that he was put under tremendous pressure by the Congress during hearings of Parliament Accounts Committee in Parliament.
Speaking to CNN-IBN BJP leader Subramanian swamy said, "Good that these officers are speaking out. Vinod Rai is an upright man. Manmohan Singh acted at the behest of Sonia and others."
"In 2G case Chidambaram's name should have been there. I will read the book and then go to the court again if there are more evidence," said Swamy.
Congress leader Manish Tewari invited Rai for an open debate.
He said, "Was it not his responsibility to bring it to public, if he was being pressurized from anybody to include or delete any names or was this nugget of sensationalism was being deliberately saved for the favourite post retirement plan of certain public servants, that is to write a book after they leave their office and have enjoyed all the benefits of the service."
Another Congress leader Tariq Anwar reacting to the controversy said, "If he was being pressurized then he should have told that before, now saying this cannot give much importance to his fact. I think this has become a tradition in our country to say truth after retirement and bring out some facts publicly or to write a book."
In his book, Sanjay Baru had written, "Pulok, who was inducted into the Manmohan Singh PMO at the behest of Sonia Gandhi, had regular, almost daily, meetings with Sonia at which he was said to brief her on the key policy issues of the day and seek her instructions on important files to be cleared by the PM.
"Indeed, Pulok was the single most point of regular contact between PM and Sonia. He was also the PMO's main point of contact with the NAC, a high profile advisory body chaired by Sonia Gandhi, with social activists as members. It was sometimes dubbed the shadow cabinet."
PC Parakh in his book 'Crusader or Conspirator? Coalgate and other Truth' said that two ministers, Shibu Soren and (Dasari Narayana) Rao, "did not want transparent allocation of coal blocks and the PM did nothing to stop it. Many MPs had even written to the PM to stall transparent allocations and Naveen Jindal was one of them."
