The recruitment season has officially begun with the release of SBI’s SBI PO 2017 Exam Notification, earlier than usual.
A lot of you may not be aware of the different recruitment exams that are being conducted annually by recruitment bodies such as IBPS, SSC and SBI. The following article contains details of the top recruitment exams of 2017 and their details.
Bank Recruitment Exams
IBPS PO
The IBPS PO Exam is conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for the recruitment of Probationary Officers in banks.
Probationary Officer is the entry level job for various banks. After getting selected, the candidates have a 2 year probation period, where they’re given intensive training in various departments of the bank to help them gain practical knowledge. Post the probation period, the candidates go through a screening test conducted by the bank, post which they’re posted in one of the branches of the banks as ‘Assistant Managers’.
Duties of POs include various Administrative and Banking tasks, supervising the work of bank Clerks, taking and solving customer queries, increasing banks business and profit through marketing.
Basic Salary: 23,700
Salary in-hand (approx): 37,360 – 38,700
This year the IBPS is conducting the 2017 IBPS PO Prelims exam on the 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th of October and mains on 27th November.
SBI PO
The SBI PO Exam is conducted by the State Bank of India annually for the recruitment of Probationary Officers in its various branches across the country. SBI is one of the most popular and widely spread banks of India.
Though the work profile of a Probationary Officer in SBI is similar to that of POs of any other bank, the roles and responsibilities are bigger and more dynamic. SBI POs undergo probation of 2 years and are trained in various departments like Marketing, Finance, Accounts, Investment and Banking. The candidates get to learn a lot and deserving candidates reach higher up in the hierarchy quicker in comparison to other banks.
Basic salary: 27,620 (with 4 advance increments)
Salary in-hand (approx): 42,000
The SBI is conducted SBI PO 2017 Prelims exam on 29th and 30th April and 6th and 7th May and SBI PO Mains on 4th June, 2017.
RBI Grade B
RBI Grade B Exam is conducted by India’s central banking institution, the Reserve Bank of India. RBI Grade B is one of the most sought-after exams because of the respect and status that the officers enjoy.
Grade B Officers in RBI have multiple responsibilities like managing the Central and Government bank accounts, controlling and maintaining the circulation of currency issued by RBI, keeping a check on the inflation and controlling it through various policies. They’re also responsible to design guidelines that the other banks/financial institutions are supposed to follow.
After the selection, Grade B officers go through probation of 2 years, which sometimes may extend to four years depending on the performance. Grade B Officers have a lot of scope for promotions under the various fast track promotional schemes of RBI. Hardworking and deserving candidates can rise up the ladder very quickly.
Grade B Officers also get a lot of opportunities to learn about inflation, corruption and the economy in general.

RBI Assistant
The RBI Assistant exam is conducted by the Reserve Bank of India for the recruitment of Assistants in its branches across the country.
RBI Assistants are responsible for maintaining files of various organizations, feeding data into the system (data entry), drafting and replying to mails and maintaining the inward and outward of emails and letters every day.
RBI Assistants are transferred every 5 years to urban areas (since RBI doesn’t have rural branches). There is not much work pressure and the timing is fixed. RBI jobs offer great work-life balance and job security.
Basic pay: 14,650

IBPS Clerk & SBI Clerk
IBPS Clerk and SBI Clerk are conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection and The State Bank of India respectively. Bank Clerks are the first point of contact to visitors or customers.
As a Clerk, candidates will be trained for the following duties during their probation period:
Single Window Operator (SWO): Duties include receipt of cheques, drafts, cheque passing and cash payment.
Head Cashier (HC): The Head Cashier is responsible for holding banks cash, keys, and other valuables. They’re also responsible for the smooth running of the cash department.
Special Assistants (SA): Special Assistants are responsible for supervising the work of clerks and other departments while at the same time being responsible for the running of their concerned department.
Universal Teller (UT): The Universal Tellers duties include receiving cheques, withdrawal forms, verifying the customer’s account details, updating pass books, explain banks’ features and services to the customers.
Agricultural Assistants: Agricultural assistants work on issues related to agriculture.
IBPS Clerk Salary:

SBI Clerk Salary:
Basic Pay: 11,765

IBPS SO
The IBPS SO (Specialist Officer) Exam is conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection for the recruitment of Specialist Officers in Banks.
Specialist Officers are posted to specific departments for specialized roles depending on their educational backgrounds and operate in their respective fields.
The various posts under IBPS SO are:
IT Officer: Responsible for maintaining and regulating the Software systems in banks.
Marketing Officer: Handle the Branding and Marketing of the bank
Law Officer: Handle the Legal and Judicial aspects of the bank
HR Officer: Responsible for the smooth functioning of the Human Resource Department
Agriculture Field Officer: Duties include promotion of loans in rural areas for the benefit of agriculture
Rajbhasha Adhikari: Responsible for promoting Hindi language in Banks operations and translate documents in Hindi.

Civil Services Exam
UPSC
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts various civil service exams for the recruitment of civil servants. Civil service exams are considered the most reputed and tough exams to crack in the country.

Insurance & Government Exams
LIC AAO
LIC AAO is conducted by the Life Insurance Corporation for the recruitment of Assistant Administrative Officers. AAO is basically a desk job which involves administrative work in the insurance sector.
The AAOs are responsible for Filing and managing claims and settlements, devising new schemes, inspecting existing policies, providing assistance and coordinating with the other departments, providing assistance to the clients and solving their queries.
AAOs undergo probation of 1 year which is sometimes extended to 2. Prior to the probation period, the employees are required to sign a contract to serve LIC for a minimum of 4 years. If the candidate fails to do so, he/she will be liable to pay 200,000 rupees for damages.

Indian Railways
Indian Railways is the largest Central Government Department in the country. As a result they have vast number of posts and vacancies for graduates.
The work is mostly administrative and supervising. Responsibilities include, operating signals, maintaining the accounts, working as guards or perform work specified by the department.
