P Chidambaram's RS candidature from TN gets Sonia's nod

AICC (All India Congress Committee) has announced P Chidambaram and nine others as candidates for biennial Rajya Sabha polls to be held soon.

In a statement issued on Sunday, AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik announced that Congress chief “Sonia Gandhi has approved the candidature of the following persons as candidates of congress to contest in the biennial elections for Rajya Sabha” from the respective states. Apart from Chidambaram, the list of candidates also included Mukul Wasnik, Rajiv Shukla, Jairam Ramesh and Randeep Singh Surjewala.


Govt withdraws advisory warning people against sharing photocopy of Aadhaar

The Centre on Sunday withdrew its press note advising people against sharing details and photocopies of their Aadhaar card with any organisation to avoid misuse. Stating that the advisory was issued by UIDAI's Bengaluru office, the government said, "In view of the possibility of the misinterpretation of the Press Release, the same stands withdrawn with immediate effect."

Gujarat cabinet nod for Tata Motors' takeover of Ford India's Sanand plant

he Gujarat government has given its green light to Tata Motors to take over Ford India’s passenger car plant in Sanand.

“The state Cabinet has issued a no-objection certificate for the purpose. It is now up to the companies to work out the nitty gritties,” a senior government official told Business Standard.

According to the official, Tata Motors would continue to enjoy the incentives that were extended to Ford India.

NCLT allows insolvency proceedings against National Textiles Corp

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has ordered to initiate insolvency proceedings against state-run National Textile Corporation (NTC) after admitting a plea by one of its operational creditors claiming default of around Rs 14 lakh.

The New Delhi bench of the NCLT has also appointed Amit Talwar as an interim resolution professional (IRP), suspending the board of NTC and has also declared a moratorium against the PSU as per the provisions of the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code (IBC)

A 43-year-old plane operated by a private airline in mountainous Nepal has been found after it went missing Sunday morning with 22 people on board, a report said.

News agency ANI report quoted an online news website to say the aircraft was detected Kowang, Mustang. The chief of Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport was quoted by ANI as saying that the status of the plane is yet to be ascertained.

ONGC becomes India's 2nd most profitable firm after its record net profit in FY22

ONGC reported a net profit of ₹40,305 crore in the fiscal year that ended March 31, becoming India's second most profitable company after Reliance Industries. ONGC's net profit for FY22 surged 258% from ₹11,246.44 crore in FY21. The company replaced Tata Steel from the number two spot, which had reported a standalone net profit of ₹33,011.18 crore for FY22.

Gujarat Titans defeat Rajasthan Royals to win IPL 2022 in their first-ever season

Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to win IPL 2022 in their first-ever season. GT restricted RR to 130/9 in their 20 overs and went on to chase the target in 18.1 overs. RR, who had won IPL in 2008, were featuring in their second final.

Singer Edava Basheer collapses on stage during live concert, dies

Veteran Malayalam singer Edava Basheer passed away on Saturday after collapsing onstage during a live performance in Kerala's Alappuzha. The 78-year-old was rushed to a private hospital at Cherthala but could not be saved. The late singer was a resident of Kollam and is survived by his wives Rasheeda and Rehna and four children Ullas, Beema, Umesh and Ushus Seetta.


Nobody involved will be spared: Punjab CM Mann on Sidhu Moosewala's killing

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on Sunday said he was "shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder" of Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead in Mansa today. He added, "Nobody involved will be spared. My thoughts and prayers are with his family...I appeal to everyone to stay calm." Moosewala's security was withdrawn recently.
