PM Modi & Biden to hold virtual meet tomorrow to 'deepen ties'

US President Joe Biden will hold a virtual meeting with PM Narendra Modi on Monday to "further deepen ties between our governments, economies, and our people", a US official said. "Biden will continue our close consultations on...consequences of Russia's brutal war against Ukraine," the official added. The meeting will precede the India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue, the official further said.


Sitaram Yechury re-elected as CPI(M) General Secretary for 3rd term

Sitaram Yechury was re-elected as General Secretary of CPI(M) for a third consecutive term at party's 23rd congress meet in Kerala's Kannur on Sunday. A 17-member politburo and 85-member central committee was also inducted at meet. Yechury, who was first elected to the post in 2015, had succeeded senior party leader Prakash Karat, who held the post for 10 years.

Sri Lankan economic crisis may cause more deaths than COVID: Doctors

The economic crisis in Sri Lanka may lead to more deaths than those caused by COVID-19, according to Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA). All hospitals in the country no longer had access to imported medical tools and vital drugs, it claimed. "We're made to make very difficult choices. We've to decide who gets treatment and who will not," it said.

 


New Pak govt will not indulge in politics of revenge: Shehbaz Sharif

Shehbaz Sharif, who has been nominated as the next PM of Pakistan, on Sunday claimed that the new government in the country will not indulge in politics of revenge. "I don't want to go back to bitterness of...past. We want to forget them and move forward," he said. Earlier, Imran Khan had lost the no-trust vote in the National Assembly.

Coinbase suspends UPI payments option in India days after launch

US-based crypto exchange Coinbase has disabled the option to buy cryptocurrencies using UPI method in India. The development comes days after Coinbase launched its trading services in India and said it would allow users to buy crypto using UPI. After the launch, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) had clarified it wasn't aware of any crypto exchange using UPI.

UP vegetable sellers' daughter Mumtaz stars in junior women's hockey World Cup

Mumtaz Khan, the 19-year-old daughter of vegetable sellers Qaiser Jahan and Hafiz Khan from Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow, helped India beat S Korea in the junior women's hockey World Cup quarterfinal on Friday. "I would've loved to watch her score the goal, but I've got to earn a living as well," her mother, who was selling vegetables during Mumtaz's match, said

 


Delhi Capitals record highest total of IPL 2022

Delhi Capitals (DC) put up a total of 215/5 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday to record the highest total of IPL 2022 so far and their fourth highest total in IPL history. It is the eighth time that DC have scored more than 200 runs in an innings in IPL. DC slammed 11 sixes in their innings today.
