Consider social justice while appointing judges, Stalin tells CJI

 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Saturday requested Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana and other judges to consider social justice in appointment of judges, setting up of the apex court bench here and use of Tamil in the Madras High Court.

US warns Solomon Islands of action over security pact with China

The US has warned the Solomon Islands that it will take unspecified action against any steps to establish a permanent Chinese military presence in the Pacific island nation. The warning comes after the Solomon Islands signed a security pact with China this week. There are potential regional security implications of the accord, according to a White House Statement.

India Post issues public warning against fake websites

The India Post warned public against fake websites that claim to provide government subsidies through participation in surveys and other means. "We wish to inform...that India Post is not involved in any such activities like announcing subsidies, bonuses or prizes based on surveys, etc," read the Ministry's official statement. It requested the public not to respond to such "spurious messages".


Future Lifestyle Chairman resigns after creditors reject Reliance deal

Future Lifestyle Fashions' Chairman Shailesh Haribhakti has resigned from his position with immediate effect. Citing the "volatile, complex and unpredictable circumstances" of Future Lifestyle, Haribhakti said, "I feel constrained to act further." The development comes a day after the company's secured creditors rejected the deal to sell Future's retail assets to Reliance Industries.


All is well: HDFC CEO to shareholders worried about drop in stock price

HDFC CEO Keki Mistry in a message to shareholders worried about the recent drop in the company's stock price said, "All is well." Shares of HDFC and HDFC Bank plunged 18% each after the companies announced their merger earlier this month. Mistry said the fall in stock prices was due to lack of communication on the benefits of the merger.


India is world no. 2 in most emerging unicorns, ahead of China: Govt

Sharing data on countries with most emerging unicorns, Union Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted, "India is world No. 2, ahead of China among countries with most emerging Unicorns." While US topped the list, China is stated to have 27 emerging unicorns against India's 32. "Our robust & innovative ecosystem is enabling Indian startups to zoom into the Unicorn club," Goyal added.


Aditya Birla Capital appoints Vishakha Mulye as new CEO

Aditya Birla Capital on Saturday said that it has appointed Vishakha Mulye as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The company's present CEO Ajay Srinivasan plans to move out of his current role and take up another role within Aditya Birla Group. Mulye is a chartered accountant by qualification and currently an Executive Director of ICICI Bank, the company said.

Indian wrestler Ravi wins hat-trick of Asian Championships golds

Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya won a gold medal in 57kg category at Asian Wrestling Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Saturday and became first Indian wrestler to win three consecutive gold medals at the tournament. Ravi led Kazakhstan's Rakhat Kalzhan 12-2 and won on technical superiority. Notably, India won five medals on day one of men's freestyle bouts.


How does the IPL 2022 points table read at the halfway mark?

At the halfway mark of IPL 2022, GT are on top of the points table with 12 points from seven matches. GT are followed by SRH, RR and RCB, who have 10 points each. Defending champions CSK are ninth with just two victories so far, while five-time champions MI are on the bottom of the points table with seven losses.


RCB record their 2nd lowest IPL total exactly 5 yrs after recording lowest-ever IPL total

RCB on Saturday recorded their second-lowest total in IPL after being dismissed for 68 runs in 16.1 overs. Only Glenn Maxwell (12) and Suyash Prabhudessai (15) scored more than 10 runs for RCB. Notably, RCB had recorded the lowest-ever total in IPL exactly five years ago on April 23, 2017, when they were bowled out for 49 runs against KKR.
