PM Modi chairs high-level meeting on India's security preparedness

UK govt offers ₹35,000/month to residents to house Ukrainian refugees

Britain will pay its citizens £350 (around ₹35,000) per month if they offer Ukrainian refugees a spare room or property for a minimum period of six months. The government said the new scheme called "Homes for Ukraine" will allow refugees to come to Britain even if they don't have family ties. Notably, about 2 million people have already fled Ukraine.

 


Thousands of Russian tourists stuck in Thailand amid Ukraine war

Thousands of Russian tourists running short of cash are reportedly stranded in Thailand as they are unable to return due to various sanctions and cancelled flights over war in Ukraine. There are about 6,500 Russian tourists stuck in Phuket, Surat Thani, Krabi and Pattaya, in addition to 1,000 Ukrainians, said the Governor of Tourism Authority of Thailand.


US authorises $200 million for additional weapons to Ukraine

US government on Saturday said that it has given "immediate" authorisation $200 million for additional arms and equipment to Ukraine for its defence amid Russia's invasion of the country. US State Secretary Antony Blinken said that this will help Ukraine meet "armoured, airborne and other threats it's facing". This brings US aid to Ukraine since January 2021 to $1.2 billion.

Adani, Piramal among 14 firms looking to buy Anil Ambani's Reliance Capital: Report

Adani Finserve, KKR, Piramal Finance and Poonawalla Finance are among the 14 prominent firms that have expressed interest in buying debt-ridden Reliance Capital promoted by Anil Ambani's Reliance Group, PTI reported on Sunday. The last date for submission of bids for the firm was extended to March 25. Last year, RBI superseded Reliance Capital's board in view of payment defaults.


Govt can float LIC IPO without fresh filing till May 12: Reports

The government has time till May 12 to float the LIC IPO without filing fresh papers with SEBI, PTI reported. If the deadline is missed, the government will have to file fresh papers with Q3 FY22 results and an updated embedded value. "We're watching the volatility and will file the red herring prospectus giving price band soon," an official said.

Australia record their biggest win by runs against NZ in Women's World Cups

Australia recorded their biggest win (by runs) against New Zealand in Women's ODI World Cups after beating them by 141 runs in the ongoing 2022 Women's World Cup. Australia posted 269/8 in 50 overs and then restricted New Zealand to 128/10 in 30.2 overs with Darcie Brown picking three wickets. It's Australia's third straight win in the tournament.
