'World's tallest' Shiva statue to be inaugurated in Rajasthan on Saturday, pic surfaces

The 369-foot-tall Shiva statue 'Viswas Swaroopam' installed in Nathdwara town of Rajasthan will be inaugurated on Saturday. Claimed to be the world's tallest Shiva statue, it's situated 45 km from Udaipur and has been constructed by Tat Padam Sansthan. It has been constructed to last 250 years and can withstand wind speed of up to 250 kmph, a spokesperson said.

 


NIA to establish offices in every state by 2024: Amit Shah


NIA to establish offices in every state: Amit Shah, the Union Minister , spoke today at the start of a two-day "Chintan Shivir" in Surajkund, Haryana.  The Chintan Shivir is being attended by Chief Ministers of the States, Home Ministers of States, Lieutenant Governors, and Administrators of Union Territories. Utilizing all internal security resources to their fullest potential is necessary in order to combat the issues facing the country.  The areas impacted by left-wing extremism, including Jammu and Kashmir and the North East, which were once hotspots of violence and disturbance, are now hotspots of development, according to the Union Home Minister.  Over the past eight years, the security situation in the North East has greatly improved. Since 2014, for example, there has been a 74% decrease in insurgency incidents, a 60% decrease in security force casualties, and a 90% decrease in civilian casualties.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik launches Safal common credit portal for farmers


Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik has launched a common credit portal SAFAL' (Simplified Application for Agricultural Loans) for the welfare of farmers.  SAFAL is an abridged application for agricultural loans that will enable farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to access over 300 term loan products from more than 40 partner banks.  It has also been integrated with Krushak Odisha and will have access to 70-plus model project reports. The application can revolutionise credit provisions for farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.

Chhath Puja 2022: Celebrations, Date and Significance


Chhath Puja is an ancient Hindu festival dedicated to the Surya Dev and Shashthi Devi. Chhath Puja is celebrated after Diwali for four days. It is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh in India and some parts of Nepal. Chhath Puja is also known as Surya Shashthi, Chhath Mahaparv, Chhath Parv, Dala Puja, Pratihar, and Dala Chhath.  Chhath Puja 2022 celebrations have begun on 28th October 2022 and will continue till 31st October 2022. The Shashthi tithi begins at 5:49 am on 30th October 2022. The tithi ends at 3:27 am on 31st October.  Chhath Puja holds special significance because during Chhath Parv we worship the source of energy, Surya Dev. The rituals of Chhath Puja are followed for four days which include the following activities.


Gujarat achieves 100 percent household tap connections under Jal Jeevan Mission 


Gujarat has been declared as a 100 percent 'Har Ghar Jal' state. In Gujarat, households in rural areas have access to safe drinking water through taps under the 'Har Ghar Jal' mission.  About 91,73,378 houses in the state have water connections according to the government record. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the state and people of Gujarat who has shown their enthusiasm for the Jal Shakti mission.  Gujarat has achieved this milestone on the occasion of the Gujarati New year.  The 'Har Ghar Jal' was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019.  The 'Har Ghar Jal' aims to make available 55 liters of water per person every day to each rural household through household tap connections by 2024.

China will resolutely support Russia: Chinese Foreign Minister

China has reiterated its support to Russia, as it played down reports that its policy towards Moscow could change after the recent Communist Party Congress was held. China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov held a telephonic conversation on Thursday. "China will be resolutely supporting Russia in the future," Wang told Lavrov.

 


Civilian evacuation of Kherson 'completed': Pro-Russia official

The evacuation of civilians from the Russian-controlled Kherson region by Russian forces amid a Ukrainian counter-offensive has been "completed", the Moscow-installed head of Crimea said late on Thursday. The Moscow-backed authorities of the Ukrainian region have urged residents to cross to the right bank of the Dnipro River as Ukrainian forces continue their advance against the Russian military.


US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul attacked by assailant in their home in US

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul Pelosi was "violently assaulted" on Friday morning in their San Francisco home when an assailant broke into the residence, according to a statement from her office. Paul was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving medical care and is expected to make a full recovery, the statement added.

United States Appoints Elizabeth Jones To Serve As Chargé d’Affaires At US Embassy in New Delhi 


The Biden administration has now named a senior US diplomat, who had worked on NATO’s role in Europe vis-a-vis Russia as the US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, as the next Charge d’Affaires ad interim in New Delhi — until a full-time Ambassador is sent to India.  Elizabeth Jones, 74, is the sixth interim US envoy in the last 21 months (since January 2021) asked to step in for the job, which is considered a placeholder until a full-time Ambassador is confirmed by the US Congress. During the Obama administration, Jones had served as Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan and Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. In October 2021, she was appointed as Coordinator for Afghan relocation efforts.

Indian Bank rolls out a bouquet of Digital products as part of “Project WAVE”


PSU lender Indian Bank has launched several digital initiatives under “Project WAVE” in a bid to enhance the customer experience through integrated services on its digital platform. Six digital initiatives were launched by the SL Jain, MD and CEO, Indian Bank, along with Sharad Mathur, MD & CEO, of Universal Sompo General Insurance Co.  Indian Bank along with Universal Sompo General Insurance will provide online vehicle and health insurance through its mobile banking app IndOASIS.  This digital collaboration would enable the bank’s customers to access and buy general insurance products digitally, anytime, anywhere, thus augmenting the insurance inclusion in India, it said in a statement.

Govt to set up committees to hear social media content moderation complaints

The government will appoint grievance committees to hear users' appeals against content moderation decisions taken by social media companies like Meta and Twitter. The three-member Grievance Appellate Committee(s) will be set up within three months, according to the gazette notification. These committees shall try to resolve the issue within 30 days.

 


BSE Launched Electronic Gold Receipts 


BSE, or the Bombay Stock Exchange, launched Electronic Gold Receipt (EGR) on its platform on  24 October 2022. It introduced two new products of 995 and 999 purity during the Muhurat trading on Diwali.  Trading will be in multiples of 1 gram and deliveries in multiples of 10 gram and 100 gram. The EGR market will remain open from 9:00 am to 9.30 pm. It will have T+1 settlement. EGR allows efficient price discovery and standardization of gold, transparency in gold transactions, promotion of India Good Delivery Standard and settlement guarantee to the Investors.

Zee-Sony merger: Groups agree to sell 3 Hindi channels to address anti-competition concerns


Sony and Zee media groups have voluntarily agreed to sell their three Hindi Channels- Big Magic, Zee Action, and Zee Classic to address possible anti-competition concerns arising out of their proposed mega-merger deal.  Sony and Zee have submitted their proposals to the Competition Commission of India (CCI). They have issued a 58-page long detailed order which informs that the two groups have agreed to divest Big Magic, which is a Hindi general entertainment channel, as well as Zee Action and Zee Classic.

Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena launched property tax amnesty scheme SAMRIDDHI


Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has launched a one-time property tax amnesty scheme "SAMRIDDHI 2022-23", which will provide a major relief to lakhs of residential and commercial property owners in the city.  SAMRIDDHI, an acronym for Strengthening and Augmentation of Municipal Revenue for Infrastructure Development in Delhi, will start on October 26 and end on March 31, 2023, with no further extensions.  The scheme aims at solving thousands of pending court cases since the unit area method for property tax calculation came into existence from 2004.  The scheme will benefit both the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the city’s residents.  Under this scheme, the residential properties will have to pay tax for 1+5 years (the ongoing financial year and last five years), while the commercial properties will be able to pay taxes for 1+6 years (current year + last 6 years).

According to Official Airline Guide (OAG) report, the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi is the 10th busiest airport in the world in terms of seat capacity and frequency of domestic and international flights as of October 2022.  According to OAG, there were 34,13,855 seats at the Delhi airport, popularly known as the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).  The busiest airport in the world as of October 2022 is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport having serviced 47,47,367 seats.  Dubai International is second with 41,27,704 seats, followed by Tokyo International Airport with 38,77,164 seats and Dallas Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport with 37,53,858 seats.

The "Akash for Life" a 3-day space conference will showcase the blending of traditional and modern knowledge through an extended integration of all schools of thought.  The decision was taken by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science and Technology, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, and Dr. Jitendra Singh. The event is scheduled to be held at Dehradun from 5th November to 7th November 2022.

BCCI Decides To End Discrimination; Offer Equal Pay To Men & Women Cricketers


In a historic decision, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)  announced a “pay equity policy”, saying that its centrally-contracted men and women players would get the same match fees. BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter to announce the significant development.  This means the women players will now get Rs 15 lakh per Test match, Rs 6 lakh for a One-Day International (ODI), and Rs 3 lakh for a T20 International. Till now, they were paid Rs 1 lakh for a white-ball match, and Rs 4 lakh for a Test.  The annual retainership for women cricketers remains the same — Rs 50 lakh for Grade A, Rs 30 lakh for Grade B and Rs 10 lakh for Grade C. The men, who play more games, are paid Rs 1-7 crore, depending on their grade.

International Animation Day 2022 observed on 28th October


International Animation Day is celebrated on 28 October every year. It was in this year when the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) declared International Animation Day (IAD) as a worldwide occasion to commend the speciality of animation. This day is celebrated in more than 50 distinct nations throughout the world. IAD was started by ASIFA, an individual from UNESCO.  The International Film Association established International Animation Day in 2002, honouring the birth of animation, recognized as the first public performance of projected moving images at Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique in Paris, on the 28th October 1892.

Shaurya Diwas celebrated in Srinagar


Defence Minister Rajnath Singh celebrated Shaurya Diwas at Old Air Field, Srinagar. The Shaurya Diwas marks the 75th year of induction of the Indian Army to save the state of Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan’s invasion in 1947.  The Shaurya Diwas is celebrated as a part of celebrations for Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and the 75th year of Air landed operations of the Indian Army at Budgam Airport.  The Shaurya Diwas celebration event was felicitated by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Amry Chief General Manoj Pande, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Air Marshal S Prabhakaran.  Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command, Lieutenant General ADS Aujla, General Officer Commanding, 15-Corps along with several other civil and military dignitaries were part of the event.

Blue Beaches: Two more Indian Beaches enter the coveted list


Two more Indian beaches have made it to the list of Blue Beaches. Minicoy, Thundi Beach and Kadmat Beach, in Lakshadweep are the proud entrants in the coveted list of Blue Beaches, an eco-label given to the cleanest beaches in the world.  Now the tally of total blue flag-endorsed beaches in India stands at 12. Both beaches have designated staff for beach cleanliness, maintenance, safety and security of swimmers. Further, they comply with all the 33 criteria mandated by the Foundation for Environment Education (FEE).

Eminent Assamese artist Neelpawan Baruah dies at 84

Eminent Assamese artist Neelpawan Baruah died at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on Friday, after a period of prolonged illness. Baruah was 84. "He pursued art with dedication for several decades and his death is an irreparable loss. I pray for the departed soul and extend my heartfelt condolences to his kin," said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.281022
