Prime Minister Launches the 1st Phase of “Rozgar Mela” to Provide Jobs to 10 lakh Youths in Central Government 


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 22 launched the Rozgar Mela recruitment drive to hire 10 lakh personnel. In the first tranche, 75,000 new appointees will be given jobs. The new recruits, selected from across the country, will join 38 government ministries and departments.  They will be appointed across various levels viz. Group A, Group B (Gazetted), Group B (Non-Gazetted) and Group C.  The Prime Minister’s Office said this will be a significant step of the government towards providing job opportunities for the youth and ensuring the welfare of the citizens. It said that as directed by the prime minister, all ministries and department are working towards filling up existing vacancies against sanctioned posts.  The recruitment will take place across central armed forces personnel, sub-inspectors, constables, LDCs, Stenos, PAs, income tax inspectors, MTS among others.


India's first 'Migration Monitoring System' inaugurated in Mumbai


India’s first 'Migration Monitoring Systems' was inaugurated by the Maharashtra Women and Children Development Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha in Mumbai. The website-based Migration Tracking System will track the movement of vulnerable seasonal migrant beneficiaries.  The Migration Monitoring Systems aims to provide information about migrant pregnant women, lactating women, and children.  The system provides updated information about migrant pregnant women, lactating women, and children in a single system.  Maharashtra Women and Children Development Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha launched the 'Migration Monitoring Systems'.  The state department has created website-based Migration Tracking System (MTS) to track the movements of vulnerable seasonal migrant beneficiaries through individual unique identification numbers.


Ayodhya Deepotsav to light over 15 lakh diyas, to make World Record


Ayodhya Ram Mandir- Ayodhya Deepotsav: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present during the sixth Deepotsav in Ayodhya. He carried out a ceremonial coronation of the Lord and inspected the Ram temple's building.  The big "Deepotsav" celebrations began when the PM attended the "aarti" on the banks of the Saryu at approximately 6.30 p.m on Sunday. Over 15 lakh diyas would be lit on the event, breaking its own previous world record.  Ayodhya Deepotsav, in the presence of Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and a large crowd on Sunday at the Ram Katha Park, the holy scene of Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman returning to Ayodhya by a "Pushpak Viman" after 14 years of exile was recreated.  Ayodhya set a new Guinness World Record for burning the most earthen lamps, 15.76 lakh, on the banks of the Saryu.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday reinstated Indian-origin British politician Suella Braverman as the country's Secretary of State for the Home Department, a week after she quit the post. Braverman had extended support to Sunak in the UK PM race and had criticised his predecessor Liz Truss. Sunak took charge of the country's top post today.

FATF Blacklists Myanmar, Calls for Due Diligence To Transactions in Nation


Money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has put Myanmar on the "black list" and has called on members to apply enhanced due diligence to business relations and transactions in Myanmar.  Myanmar has entered the FATF's high-risk jurisdictions list, often referred to as the 'black list'. The FATF blacklist, officially designated as High-Risk Jurisdictions subject to a Call for Action, identifies nations with weak anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist funding regulatory frameworks.  In February 2020, Myanmar committed to addressing its strategic deficiencies. Myanmar's action plan expired in September 2021.


Anna May Wong set to become first Asian American to feature on US currency


Anna May Wong: Anna May Wong was born with the name Wong Liu-Tsong. Wong began her film career at the age of 14 as an extra in The Red Lantern. Anna May Wong was born in Los Angeles to second-generation Chinese immigrants (1919).  Anna May Wong, only three years later, in one of the earliest Technicolor movies, The Toll of the Sea (1922), in which she starred, received critical praise.  Anna May Wong was also The Gallery of Madame Liu-first Tsong's Asian American lead actor on television (1951).


Chinese President Xi Jinping wins record third term in power


Chinese President Xi Jinping has created history, becoming the first leader of the ruling Communist Party after party founder Mao Zedong to get re-elected for an unprecedented third term in power with the prospect of ruling China for life.  He was elected as General Secretary of the Communist Party for 3rd five-year tenure by the new seven-member Standing Committee packed with his supporters who appeared before the local and foreign media here to herald the new era, widely termed ‘Xi era’.  Xi’s “election” for the third term in power formally ends the over three decades of rule followed by his predecessors, barring Mao, of retiring after a 10-year tenure. Xi was first elected in 2012 and will be completing his 10-year term this year.

Honesty Shops has been opened in Kerala


Honesty Shops have been opened in 15 schools in the Ernakulam district of Kerala. The Honesty Shops are a part of the Student Police Cadet (SPC) project which aims to provide valuable lessons on truth, and integrity for students.  In these honestly shops there is no salesman at the counters and students can drop the money for each item in the collection box kept in the shop.  The honesty shops have been launched under the Student Police Cadet (SPC).  The SPC project was conceived to inculcate better civic sense among students and mold them as responsible youth.  The objective of the Honestly shops is to provide students a chance to experience the virtue of honesty.

Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh named brand ambassador of T20 World Cup for the Blind


The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) has announced former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh as their brand ambassador for the 3rd T20 World Cup for the Blind to be held in India in December.  Ajay Kumar Reddy B2 (Andhra Pradesh) will lead the Indian team while Venkateswara Rao Dunna - B2 (Andhra Pradesh) will be the vice-captain. The World Cup matches will be held from December 6 to 17.  The participating countries for the 3rd T20 World Cup for the Blind are India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The opening match will be played between defending champions India and Nepal on December 6 in Faridabad.

UNHRC: Ashwini K.P. becomes 1st Indian to be appointed Independent Expert on racism


The United Nations Human Rights Council appointed the first Asian and first Indian as an independent experts on racism and related intolerance. Dr Ashwini’s appointment has been officially made at the UNHRC’s session which concluded in Geneva on October 7.  Three names, including that of Ashwini, were doing rounds for the post. Dr Ashwini will take over the UNHCR special rapporteur in Geneva on November 1 for a period of six years. She is the first Asian as well as the first Indian to be appointed for the post.

India fines Google Rs.1337 crore for abusing its dominant position


India fines Google Rs.1337 crore: The nation's competition watchdog has fined Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., Rs 1,337 crore for engaging in anti-competitive behaviour with regard to Android mobile devices.  Google was penalised by India's Competition Commission (CCI) for "abusing its dominant position in numerous regions within the Android mobile device ecosystem."  The decision to fine Google for alleged anti-competitive practices was described as "a major setback for Indian consumers and businesses" by Google.  Google company said it would review the decision to determine its next course of action.  The Android OS (operating system) is run and managed by Google, and the company also grants licences for its other proprietary programmes. In their mobile devices, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) employ this OS and Google's apps.

World Polio Day 2022 is observed every year on October 24 to raise awareness about the polio vaccination and eradication of polio from every corner of the world. 7th Ayurveda Day 2022 observed on 23rd October


The 7th Ayurveda Day was celebrated on a magnificent scale in India and at the international level.  The theme of this year’s Ayurveda Day is “Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda”, with the motive to propagate the benefits of Ayurveda to masses and grass-root communities. In view with the 2022 theme, several events and activities were conducted under 3-Js i.e. Jan Sandesh, Jan Bhagidari and Jan Aandolan.  The celebration also includes six-week-long events from 12th September 2022 to 23rd October 2022.


United Nations Day 2022 celebrates on 24th October


United Nations Day, on 24 October, marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.  In 1945, 50 governments gathered to draft the UN Charter. They have struggled and accomplished great feats to uphold peace, protect human rights, and play a key role in bringing international justice.  The United Nations Day commemorates the signing of that charter. According to their official website, the United Nations is “One place where the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions.”

Red Bull Formula One owner Dietrich Mateschitz passes away at 78


Austrian billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz, the co-founder of energy drink company Red Bull and founder and owner of the Red Bull Formula One racing team, has died.  He was 78. Officials with the Red Bull racing team at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, announced Mateschitz's death. The Red Bull Racing team has enjoyed success in Formula 1, winning the constructors' championship in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Cyclone Sitrang hit densely populated area in Bangladesh, Indian region affected


Cyclone Sitrang hit Bangladesh: Cyclone Sitrang ploughed into heavily populated, low-lying parts of Bangladesh on night, killing at least nine people.
The districts of Barguna, Narail, Sirajganj, and the island district of Bhol all reported death. Officials warned that as more casualties are reported from other districts, the death toll could rise.  Cyclone Sitrang quickly degraded into a deep depression after crossing Bangladesh, and as of Tuesday morning, it had further degraded into a low pressure region.  Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura may experience widespread moderate to heavy rainfall on Tuesday due to the system, which is now moving towards northeastern areas of India.
